01/10/2019, Cape Town, South Africa – Luxury travel company, Ker & Downey® Africa, aim to raise $10,000 by the end of 2019 to empower marginalized women and children in South Africa.

The proceeds will be donated to the company’s Legacy Partner, the Project Brave Foundation, an organization that is changing the lives of women and children living on the streets of Johannesburg through a transformative programme.

“As a predominantly female team heading up the operations of Ker & Downey® Africa, we were inspired by Project Brave and their passion to uplift women and children that live on the streets of Johannesburg, South Africa,” says Head of Sales, Jenieen van den Heever. “We have set up a Go Get Funding Campaign to raise $10,000 for Project Brave to aid them in their goal to assist more families through this journey of change.”

“Project Brave operates as a 4 step programme,” says Sacha Proctor, one of the 3 founders of the foundation. Once the families have been rescued off the streets, the foundation offers them physical and emotional support. Children in the programme are entered into school and the
families are provided safe accommodation throughout the duration of the programme.

“It is vital that we empower each woman by guiding them through a process of change – giving them a hand up, and not a hand out. Depending on their level of education, as well as their interests, we send each woman on a skills development programme, bettering their chances of
finding formal employment or starting their own business,” says Sacha.

Since its launch in 2016, the foundation has transformed the lives of 15 mothers and 30 children. The women are now able to support their families through self employment, as well as formal employment.

The $10,000 donation will play a crucial role in funding the skills development programme and training of each mother, food and toiletry packs for the families, school fees for the children, psychological and medical support as well as shelter for the duration of the programme.
